1. Multifunctional Rooms
Uncertain times have demanded the ability to transform spaces to serve your current needs. We have witnessed collectively our lives the past few years unwillingly become confined to our living spaces and subsequently – acting as our gyms, offices and meeting rooms. The need to create multi purpose rooms is on the rise and shockingly – open concept design is becoming not as favoured. Extensive time spent at home has brought defining and deep awareness to intentional design of space utilization. On Houzz, searches for “home office” increased by 108%, “home gym” by 156%, and art studios by a soaring 875%! Hybrid spaces is the new trend – how about, have you transformed some spaces in your own home?
2. Intentional Space
Aside from the need for creating dedicated spaces for various activities – the need to feel like your own home is serving you the comfort you yearn is growing. We are finding more and more homes embodying the true sense of serenity and coziness. Just as fast fashion is trending out and the rise of impactful selections that create a lasting effect is flourishing – so is the world of home design trends. Statement décor pieces and furniture that are both functional and on trend is carefully sought out for. “Colored candles and useful everyday objects with personality will be replacing futile decorations that have neither meaning or purpose.” -Kathryn M. Ireland
3. The Colour Green
Sherwin Williams 2022 Colour of the year is without a doubt “Evergreen Fog”. We’ve all seen green being incorporated in so many aspects of the home – especially in kitchen cabinets (with searches on Houzz up by 829%). Green is a natural found colour envelops you with soothing and calming effects. We at Horizon Home Staging & Styling love it so much that it’s actually become one of our branding colours!
“I think green is trending for a few reasons,” Jennifer Ott – a colour consultant in San Francisco says. She also elaborates “First off, after years of whites, grays and cool blues being popular, it seems folks are moving more toward warmer hues. Green bridges warm and cool, so it’s a good transition between the two. It works well with white and gray but also tans and creams.
“Also, organic botanical motifs are really popular right now in fashion and interior design. Green is an obvious color pairing, especially when combined with natural woods and fibers, which are also popular in home decor right now.”
4. Combining Design Elements and Materials
“The desire to have unique things that are not like everyone else’s is leading to an increase in mixing materials in furniture design. It is not uncommon to see case goods with wood, metal and stone elements all used in the same piece, to make them more unique and special.” -Timothy Corrigan
There is really no wrong or correct way in combining elements together that bring you true joy and make you feel optimum happiness in the space you live in. So long as you create a coherent look that follows important design principles. Unifying your mixtures with similar colours, wood tones, and scale will be key while maintaining a smooth flow and visual balance. Define your space and work away by first centering the most important pieces and balance all the accent pieces around it in weight, height and colour distribution.
